Constraints on Higher Derivative Operators in the Matrix Theory Effective Lagrangian

چکیده

The consistency of Matrix theory with supergravity requires that in the large Nc limit terms of order v in the SU(Nc) Matrix effective potential are not renormalized beyond one loop in perturbation theory. For SU(2) gauge group, the required non-renormalization theorem was proven recently by Paban, Sethi and Stern. In this paper we consider the constraints supersymmetry imposes on these terms for groups SU(Nc) with Nc > 2. Nonrenormalization theorems are proven for certain tensor structures, including the structures that appear in the one-loop effective action. However it is expected other tensor structures can in general be present, which may suffer renormalization at three loops and beyond.

Higher Dimensional Operators in the MSSM

The origin and the implications of higher dimensional effective operators in 4-dimensional theories are discussed in non-supersymmetric and supersymmetric cases. Particular attention is paid to the role of general, derivative-dependent field redefinitions which one can employ to obtain a simpler form of the effective Lagrangian. An application is provided for the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard...

Derivative corrections to Dirac-Born-Infeld Lagrangian and non-commutative gauge theory

We consider the constraints on the effective Lagrangian of the rank-one gauge field on Dbranes imposed by the equivalence between the description by ordinary gauge theory and that by non-commutative gauge theory in the presence of a constant B field. It is shown that we can consistently construct the two-derivative corrections to the Dirac-Born-Infeld Lagrangian up to the quartic order of field...

Supersymmetric Models with Higher Dimensional Operators

In 4D renormalisable theories, integrating out massive states generates in the low energy effective action higher dimensional operators (derivative or otherwise). Using a super-field language it is shown that a 4D N=1 supersymmetric theory with higher derivative operators in either the Kahler or the superpotential part of the Lagrangian and with an otherwise arbitrary superpotential, is equival...

Constraining higher derivative supergravity with scattering amplitudes

Supersymmetry constraints on higher derivative couplings in maximal supergravity theories have been investigated extensively in the past [1–7] and have led to remarkable exact results on the quantum effective action of string theory. The method of Refs. [3,8–10] in obtaining constraints on higher derivative terms in gauge and gravity theories with maximal supersymmetry was by explicitly analyzi...

On non-gaussianities in single-field inflation

We study the impact of higher dimension operators in the inflaton Lagrangian on the non-gaussianity of the scalar spectrum. These terms can strongly enhance the effect without spoiling slow-roll, though it is difficult to exceed fNL ∼ 1, because the scale which suppresses the operators cannot be too low, if we want the effective field theory description to make sense. In particular we explicitl...
